The Welcome Wagon Esther Vinyl LP

$23.98

With this, their fourth LP, the Welcome Wagon place Monique’s grandmother Esther front and center. Her name is on the cover. Her lifelong collection of magazine clippings, photos, textiles, and saved wrapping paper are the materials Monique has appropriated for the collages that form the album’s artwork. And Esther’s voice is the first one we hear as the record opens. She’s reading words of Scripture recorded three decades ago on cassette for Monique, inviting anyone who is weary to come and “find rest for your souls.” (Steven Purcell, 2022, Boerne, Texas)

Description

The Welcome Wagon – Monique Aiuto and her husband, Pastor Vito Aiuto – write and play songs about life – family, love, and challenge, longing, faith, and doubt – that are honest and true. No platitudes. No sentimentality or judgement. Their songs exude an earnest directness that is of another time. Some of their phrasing would be more at home in a medieval breviary than in 21st century America, but they get away with it – these songs are singable and resonant with life as it really is, in all its brokenness and beauty. (Steven Purcell, 2022, Boerne, Texas)
